Description
A small, climbing ficus species of unknown origin with tricoloured, slightly bullate leaves.
This cultivar, probably of Ficus pumila , is known by several names. In Russian-speaking countries, it is called 'Tricolor Wishes', and in Japan, it is known as 'Moonlight' (not to be confused with the similar-looking form 'Moonlit Nightlight'). As far as we know, it has not yet been offered for sale in Europe.
It was bred from the variety 'Dorte' / 'Curly', which is characterized by wavy, slightly bullate leaves. The leaves are therefore always somewhat "distorted" and only green at the edges. The center of the leaf is variegated light green to yellow, and in bright light, white variegated areas also appear. The variegation is more pronounced when the plants grow in bright light. If they grow in the shade, the variegation is less pronounced.
The creeping fig grows very quickly and densely, both as a ground cover and as a climbing plant. It is not particular about the substrate to which it attaches itself with its aerial roots. In nature, it primarily climbs trees, but it also grows on stones, wooden walls, and even on twin-wall polycarbonate sheets in our greenhouse!
It also branches out extensively, forming dense mats. Because of these characteristics, it's a popular terrarium plant for those who want a quickly lush green background or densely covered substrate. However, in small terrariums, it can quickly become overgrown and must be kept under control through regular pruning.
You will receive a well-rooted cutting with new shoots in a 5.5 cm pot.
