Description
Ficus villosa originates from Southeast Asia and is particularly widespread on the larger islands (Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi) and can be found throughout the lowland rainforest.
This climbing fig grows strictly upright and clings closely to its substrate. It's not picky about the surface it clings to with its aerial roots. In nature, it primarily climbs trees, but it also grows on stones, wooden walls, and even on twin-wall polycarbonate sheets in our greenhouse!
It branches little or not at all and therefore usually grows as a single stem with alternating leaves. The leaf margins and undersides are particularly hairy ("villosa" means hairy).
This variety from Malaysia remains significantly smaller than the common Ficus villosa and is distinguished by its lighter, silvery leaves. From our own observations in nature, we know that even after growing several meters up a tree, its leaves rarely exceed 4 cm in diameter. This makes it much better suited for terrarium cultivation than the standard variety, which quickly becomes far too large for most terrariums.
It is not yet clear whether this is truly Ficus villosa or a new, as yet undescribed species. This form would need to flower for that to be determined.
You will receive a well-rooted and actively growing cutting in a 6 cm pot.
