Gloxinella lindeniana is a small gesneria (Gesneriaceae) from northwestern Peru. It grows terrestrially in shady, consistently moist locations with sandy to humus-rich soil. Its growth is rather creeping, with only weak, shallow roots extending along the entire stem. In a terrarium, Gloxinella lindeniana will root on any permanently moist surface (e.g., stones, background walls). It branches moderately, eventually forming a small clump. It also produces creeping rhizomes that resemble strings of beads. New plants will also emerge from these after some time. If it dries out, it enters a dormant phase in which all leaves die and it survives as a tuberous rhizome. However, this dry phase is not essential for good growth and it can be cultivated continuously. It reaches a height of approximately 10 to 15 cm.
The leaves grow to about 5 to 7 cm long and 3 to 4 cm wide. Their base color is a dark olive green. The light green main veins create a striking contrast with this dark hue. As is typical for many gesneriads, the leaves are densely covered with velvety hairs, giving them a matte appearance. In addition, there are also individual, longer, and transparent hairs scattered across the leaves. The undersides of the leaves are red, with green veins that stand out against the green.
The flowers have five fused petals forming a short tube. The throat is purple, the edge white. Gloxinella lindeniana blooms regularly.

You will receive a young plant in a 7cm pot, already with some of the creeping rhizomes!
Please note: This plant is sensitive to changes in location and shipping. It is likely that the main stem will lose (almost) all its leaves or die after shipping. Therefore, we only ship plants that have already formed several rhizomes from which they can then sprout anew. The rhizomes can also be separated and distributed in several locations within the terrarium.
