Description
Johannesteijsmannia altifrons is a spectacular tropical palm native to southern Thailand and the Malay Peninsula. It resembles Johannesteijsmannia magnifica , but remains somewhat smaller and grows faster.
It has enormous, diamond- to spatula-shaped, undivided leaves. These grow to a maximum length of about 2 meters, of which approximately 0.5 meters is the leaf stalk, and 1.5 meters wide. The leaves are very stiff, toothed at the edges, and have longitudinal grooves. It does not form a trunk but grows directly from the underground rhizome. Palm enthusiasts often consider it one of the most beautiful palms in the world.
Similar to J. magnifica, it grows slowly and is not often offered for sale, which is why large specimens in cultivation are extremely rare.
You will receive a strong young plant with 1 to 2 leaves, approximately 40 cm tall, in an 11cm rose pot.
