Description
Johannesteijsmannia magnifica is a spectacular and rare tropical palm, found in the wild only in the Sungai Lalang Forest Reserve in Selangor, Malaysia. It resembles the more common Johannesteijsmannia altifrons , but grows even larger and more spectacular.
It has enormous, diamond- to spatula-shaped, undivided leaves. These can reach a maximum length of about 3 meters, of which approximately 1 meter is the leaf stalk, and a width of 2 meters. The leaves are very stiff, serrated at the edges, have longitudinal grooves, and the underside is covered with fine white scales, giving them a silvery appearance . It does not form a trunk but grows directly from the underground rhizome. Palm enthusiasts often consider it perhaps the most beautiful palm in the world.
It grows very slowly and is not often offered for sale, which is why large specimens in cultivation are extremely rare.
It's already quite clear that the plants offered here are indeed J. magnifica . The undersides of the leaves already show the beginnings of the typical silvery scales.
You will receive a strong young plant with 1 to 2 leaves, approximately 40 cm tall, in an 11cm rose pot.
