This beautiful Labisia originates from Sumatra, from the area around the town of Jambi. It is also sold as "Jabi Sunrise," which is likely just a misspelling of Jambi. It has narrow leaves, up to about 18 cm long and only 4 to 7 cm wide, with a very striking, multicolored pattern. The leaf margins and midrib are light green, as are the lateral veins, depending on the light. The leaf area between these light veins is dark green to black, and reddish in fresh leaves. The leaves vary in color depending on the light intensity. In bright light, they tend to be pinkish, while in low light they are dark green and velvety. Fresh leaves are always reddish. A truly stunning display of color, and certainly one of the most colorful and eye-catching plants in a terrarium.
It grows similarly to Labisa pumila , tending to be upright and branching little to not at all. However, it remains considerably smaller than L. pumila , reaching only about 30 to 40 cm in height (instead of 60 to 80 cm).
