Description
Monstera 'Burle Marx's Flame' originated from the collection of the Brazilian plant collector and artist Roberto Burle Marx. The actual origin of the plant (natural habitat or cultivated form) is unknown. It was released from his collection in 1981. It most closely resembles a Monstera deliciosa var. sierrana, but it is not known whether it is a form of M. deliciosa or not. Within the genus Monstera, it belongs to the section Tornelia, which is found only in Central America. It therefore probably comes from this region and not from Brazil.
It is definitely not "Monstera dilacerata".
It later received the epithet Burle Marx's Flame due to its juvenile leaves, which resemble an (inverted) flame. The leaves are split into thin, curved lobes almost down to the midrib (pinnatifid). Only very large specimens show some small holes along the midrib. It is also easy to identify as a juvenile plant, as it differs surprisingly clearly from other Monstera. As a young plant, it has very narrow leaves, rarely wider than 3cm, and it is significantly firmer and more robust than all other Monstera. If you touch the leaves, you immediately know whether it is a Burle Marx's Flame or not.
Unfortunately, it also grows significantly slower than other Monstera, probably due to this robust and compact growth.
You will receive a strong young plant in a 7 cm pot.
