Description
This banana plant is probably the hardiest of all bananas. Contrary to what its name suggests, Musa basjoo does not originate from Japan, but is originally native to southern China. However, it was brought to Japan by seafarers in ancient times, where it has long been cultivated as an ornamental plant.
It grows to about 3 to 4 meters tall, with leaves approximately 2 to 2.5 meters long and a trunk 2 to 3 meters high.
It is hardy down to about -12°C. However, the leaves and stems die back above ground if frost occurs below -5°C, and it sprouts anew from the rhizome in spring.
If it is cultivated in a pot, the pot should be protected from freezing.
You will receive a plant approximately 30-40 cm tall in a 10 cm pot.
