Description
Pellionia pulchra originates from Southeast Asia and belongs to the nettle family (Urticaceae). However, it has no stinging hairs and is not poisonous.
It grows as ground cover in shady areas of the rainforest undergrowth and can develop very different leaf colors and shapes depending on the amount of light it receives. In low light, the leaves become small, rounded, and develop a pronounced net-like pattern. In bright light, the leaves become elongated (up to about 10 cm long) and the pattern fades. Both leaf types can occur on the same plant, depending on how much light reaches each part!
In a terrarium, it can be grown as ground cover or as a hanging plant (e.g., on the back wall). As a houseplant, it looks best in a hanging pot. The shoots grow to about 50 cm long.
The flowers are inconspicuous reddish and are borne on long, upright flower stalks.
Some authors do not consider P. pulchra a separate species but rather a form of P. repens . However, we are quite certain that these plants are different. Our mother plants grow right next to each other and show clear differences. P. pulchra is much more compact, with shoots only half as long, has a completely different leaf pattern, and the flowers are differently colored, arranged, and appear at different times than those of P. repens . In any case, you will definitely receive the plants as pictured!
Depending on availability, you will receive either a strong young plant with two shoots in a 5.5 cm pot or two strong, fresh cuttings without roots.
