Description
Philodendron brandtianum is a species of Philodendron from South America, primarily Bolivia.
It grows as a hemiepiphytic vine in the rainforests there at altitudes up to approximately 1500 m. The young leaves feature very attractive white areas and spots, which appear metallic silver in the right light. This appearance is not due to a white color or lack of chlorophyll in the leaf, but rather to air pockets under the epidermis.
Philodendron brandtianum is mainly known as a young plant. However, like most other philodendrons, it also grows very large when it can climb and unfortunately then loses its white markings. Here is a picture of a mature specimen in nature. In indoor cultivation, however, the leaves usually do not grow larger than about 30 cm and still retain their high-contrast markings. If cultivated as a hanging plant, the leaves usually do not grow larger than about 15 cm.
You will receive a young plant, approximately 20 to 30 cm long, in a 12 cm pot with several shoots. The ideal size to now offer a climbing aid so that the plant can begin to climb!
