Description
Philodendron gloriosum originates from the mountains around Villavicencio in central Colombia. There, it grows at altitudes of 500 to 1675 meters, terrestrially or epiphytically, but (unlike most other Philodendron) not climbing. It tends to crawl along the base of large trees, not growing much more than 1 meter up the trees. Its "glorious" leaves are truly beautiful and among the best that the Philodendron genus has to offer. They are oval-heart-shaped, up to over 50 cm long and 40 cm wide. Young leaves are light green with pink-tinged veins. The older (and "riper") the leaves get, the darker and more velvety they become. The leaf veins lose their pink color and turn glittering white.
Both its non-climbing growth and its robustness and tolerance to slightly cooler temperatures make it one of the best "velvet" Philodendrons for indoor cultivation.
