Description
Philodendron hastatum originates from Southeast Brazil. "hastatum" means "spear-shaped" and refers to the shape of the mature leaves. They indeed resemble a spearhead and grow to about 50cm long and 15cm wide with two pronounced basal lobes (the "ears" at the top of the leaf). The "Silver Sword" selection also stands out due to its unique, silvery-shining upper surface. In the right light, it truly appears metallic grey, making this easy-to-care-for species a real eye-catcher, especially when placed among other plants.
Like most Philodendrons, P. hastatum is a climbing plant and requires a stable support in the form of a coir or moss pole, mimicking a tree, to climb up and develop large leaves.
You will receive a strong plant in a 10 cm pot, with a vine approximately 20 to 30 cm long. It should definitely be given a climbing aid now to continue growing beautifully!
