Description
This piper , with its striking dark green leaves that are red on the underside, is primarily cultivated in Thailand, where it is known as 'Red Arrow'. At first glance, it looks very similar to the commonly cultivated Syngonium erythrophyllum 'Red Arrow' ! However, the fact that this is a piper (a member of the pepper family) and not an aroid becomes apparent as soon as the plant is damaged. It emits the typical, spicy aroma of piperidine. Even without cutting it, differences can be observed. For example, in Piper 'Red Arrow', the leaf stalks and stems are also red, not just the undersides of the leaves. And like all pipers , it also forms so-called "protein bodies" on the undersides of the leaves when it is thriving.
It grows rather slowly and should not be kept too moist. Like most Piper species, this one also prefers to climb, and only then will it develop larger and differently shaped leaves.
You will receive a young plant in a 9 cm square pot.
