Description
This ornamental pepper plant is said to originate from Indonesia. It resembles Piper ornatum from Sulawesi, but is definitely a different species. The leaves remain significantly smaller (so far only reaching about 6 cm in length and 5 cm in width in our collection), are rounder, highly glossy, and much thicker and fleshier. The metallic pink marbling is somewhat more pronounced than in P. ornatum . Unfortunately, the similarities to P. ornatum end with the growth rate. While P. ornatum is very fast-growing, Piper sp . 'Indonesia' is one of our slowest-growing species. It is also more sensitive to dry air and cool temperatures and should therefore ideally be kept in a terrarium. At least it remains nicely small and compact and thus won't overrun your terrarium in no time, as P. ornatum would!
You will receive a young plant with 3 to 5 leaves in a 9 cm pot.
Please note: Piper species are very sensitive to temperature. The plants will only be shipped again in styrofoam boxes with heat packs once nighttime temperatures are consistently between 12 and 15 °C. This may not be until the end of February or even March. Until then, paid plants will remain in our greenhouse and are reserved for you. Orders containing Piper species will NOT be split into partial shipments. If you have any questions, please contact us by email at webshop@jungle-leaves.de.
