Description
Schoenorchis seidenfadenii is a tiny, monopodial orchid from Assam (India), Myanmar, Thailand, and Yunnan (China). Within the genus Schoenorchis, it belongs to the section Pumila. There are about 4 other very similar species in this section, which differ only in small details of their flowers. Since our plants have not yet bloomed, we cannot say with 100% certainty whether this is truly S. seidenfadenii or one of the other very similar Schoenorchis species.
It grows to about 3 to a maximum of 5 cm tall, with very densely arranged, two-ranked, fleshy thickened leaves. The leaves turn red with ample light. The tiny, pink/white flowers appear in summer on a short, branched inflorescence in clusters of 5 to over 20 individual flowers. Larger plants can also produce several flower spikes and thus have over 50 flowers at once. The flowers last about 4 weeks.
You will receive a bloom-sized plant mounted on a piece of wood.
