In a revision by Zhou and Zang (2023), the large and highly diverse genus Selaginella was split into several genera. According to this revision, the new name for this plant is now Didiclis megalura . We will continue to use the old name for the time being, until the new names are confirmed by other authors.
This Selaginella originates from southern Borneo (Sarawak). It is likely a dark-colored form of Selaginella megalura . The stems are robust and red. The small leaves turn bronze to black, depending on the amount of light the plant receives, and exhibit a very strong, deep dark blue iridescence. The species grows upright or climbing and can reach several meters in length and height if given enough space and a support. Without support, it reaches a height of about 60 cm. Its growth habit is similar to Selaginella willdenowii , but it branches less and the individual fronds remain somewhat smaller.
The combination of size, color, and shape of the individual fronds makes this species an absolute highlight in any larger terrarium. A living work of art and one of the most exciting new introductions to the world of terrarium plants in recent years.

You will receive a well-rooted cutting in a 7cm pot. The young plants are usually not yet very iridescent, as we cultivate them under bright light to promote faster growth.
Please note: The small twigs of this species break very easily. Even with very good packaging, some pieces will likely break off after shipping. Unfortunately, this cannot be prevented, but it doesn't significantly harm the plant. After an acclimatization period, this species continues to grow quite quickly. Such damage is not grounds for a complaint.
