This Selaginella likely originates from the southern Chinese province of Yunnan. We have not yet been able to identify the species. However, we will add it here and update the text as soon as we know more.
It grows primarily as a ground cover or a weak climber, similar to Selaginella uncinata , but it becomes considerably taller and more spreading, and doesn't remain completely flat on the ground. Overall, however, it maintains a compact growth habit and only reaches about 10 cm in height. Therefore, it is also well-suited for small terrariums.
The iridescence of this species is very pronounced, displaying various colors from turquoise to dark blue to purple, sometimes simultaneously, sometimes sequentially over several weeks. The microphylls can also turn green or brownish. We call this species "Rainbow" because of this enormous range of colors it can produce. To be honest, we haven't yet figured out exactly what conditions bring out these beautiful colors. Unlike other Selaginella species we have, it's not solely the intensity of the light. In the gallery, we've added some pictures of this plant taken at different times to show just how variable it is.
This species grows quite quickly and is not complicated to care for if it is grown in a sufficiently warm and humid tropical terrarium.

You will receive a plant in a 7cm pot, approximately 10cm tall.
Please note: The small twigs of this species break very easily. Even with very good packaging, some pieces will likely break off after shipping. Unfortunately, this cannot be prevented, but it doesn't significantly harm the plant. After an acclimatization period, this species continues to grow quite quickly. Such damage is not grounds for a complaint.
