Strobilanthes alternata (Bubble leaf - Syn. Hemigraphis alternata)

Strobilanthes alternata , also known as the alternate-leaf plant, belongs to the acanthus family and is originally from Java and Indonesia. It grows to about 30 cm tall and thrives in the undergrowth of rainforests. The new leaves are particularly beautiful, with a glossy silver color and green veins. The leaf edges are slightly serrated, and the undersides are a vibrant pink. A real eye-catcher!

This plant is already a popular hanging plant, especially in the USA. It is sometimes also used as ground cover. It is also well-suited for medium-sized terrariums.

In this country, the knobby leaf is still virtually unknown. Sometimes it's sold under its old name, Hemigraphis alternata , as an aquarium plant. This makes little sense, as it does prefer moist conditions but is definitely not aquatic and will die quickly in an aquarium. Specimens sold as aquarium plants often have deformed leaves and are generally unattractive. The plants sold here, of course, were not grown in an aquatic environment.



You will receive two fresh stem cuttings.
Strobilanthes root very easily and continue to grow immediately, which is why we have decided to offer them as fresh cuttings. Upon receipt, simply place them in a box or terrarium on slightly moist substrate.
