Description
Syngonium schottianum is a very large, climbing Syngonium species from Nicaragua, Panama, and Costa Rica. To our knowledge, this species has not yet been cultivated and is being offered here for the first time. We are somewhat surprised that apparently no one has cultivated this species before, as it is truly beautiful!
The young leaves have a very bright, fresh green color, reminiscent of various "neon" cultivars of other aroids. The leaves retain this color for many weeks and even months before becoming a slightly darker green. This very slow color change is also due to the slow growth of this species, which is quite atypical for Syngonium . The leaf veins are particularly striking and beautiful. The veins are sunken and merge into a single, continuous vein just before the leaf margin. This characteristic (along with its habitat) is also a good way to identify the species and distinguish it from other Syngonium or similarly growing Philodendrons .
As mentioned before, this species grows very large over time. The leaves can reach up to 70 cm in length and 40 cm in width, but only if it can climb on a support (in nature, a tree). Otherwise, the leaves remain rather small (up to 30 cm).
