Description
An unusual relative of the typical papaya, this variety doesn't grow as a single trunk but branches out over time! Reaching a height of approximately 3 meters, it remains somewhat smaller and is delicious. It is found from Ecuador to Bolivia at higher altitudes of 1000 to 1800 meters, which is why it thrives in the relatively cool temperatures typical of the tropical highlands. It flowers and bears fruit from a height of only about 1.5 to 2 meters. This makes it significantly easier to bring this papaya to fruiting in our latitudes than the common variety. The trunks also bear numerous fruits on the lower parts of the plant, not just in the crown directly beneath the leaves.
The fruits are oblong, bright orange when ripe, and somewhat smaller than typical papaya fruits.
You will receive a strong young plant, approximately 20cm tall, in a 7cm rose pot.
Please note: Papaya plants usually react to changes in location by dropping most of their leaves. However, they quickly sprout new growth and then continue to grow rapidly.
