Jungle Lux Linear UV 40 - UV-A/UV-B Broad-Spectrum Lamp 60°

This lamp represents a novelty in LED-UV technology, as it not only addresses the relevant UV-A ranges but is also broadband in the UV-B range due to a novel 320nm LED. The beam angle of all installed chips is 60°. In combination with other linear lamps, a true full spectrum of 300-750 nm is achieved.

UV-A is effective in the near visible (395 nm) as well as the far UV-A (365 nm) range, both of which are therefore included in the lamp. It is essential for many tri- and tetrachromats for color vision, as, for example, for birds or reptiles, a white color impression only arises when this radiation is present (explanation). UV-B radiation is also divided into short-wave and long-wave UV-B. Both areas fulfill distinct tasks. Far UV-B between 300-310 nm ensures sufficient vitamin D3 synthesis. Near UV-B at 320 nm, however, regulates this synthesis and minimizes the risk of overdose (Wunderlich et al. 2023, free text).

Plants also perceive UV light. Cryptochromes and phototropins, for example, can perceive UV-A light (Yu, Xuhong et al. 2010). UVR8 is a specific receptor for deep UV-B radiation (Q&A UVR8). Depending on the UV intensity, plants regulate the synthesis of secondary metabolites. These include, for example, terpenes or anthocyanins, which are stored as protective substances and protect the plant from radiation damage. These substances, for example, color the plant red and also help in pest control.

The lamp does not serve as sole lighting and should be used together with other white lamps. For example, with a white light duration of 12 hours, an additional 6-9 hours can be illuminated with UV light. The distance of the lamp is determined according to the desired UV index from the illustration. For desert animals, for example, values between 5-8 are ideal, for tropical terrariums 1-5. Please inform yourselves about the needs of the animals you keep. Improperly applied UV radiation can be dangerous for humans, animals, and plants!

The lamps come with a 1m connection cable and require no additional power supply! They have a 60cm extension, and lamps with a total power of up to 150W can be connected without additional cables. All Jungle Lux Linear types are mutually compatible.

All cable connections and the plant lamp itself are IP65 splash-proof and can therefore get wet during operation.

Matching the lamps, we offer extension cables and in-line timers, which can be integrated via the same plug system as for connecting the lamps.
