Description
This small sundew has a very large distribution area. It occurs throughout Asia, from India to Japan and from southern China to New Zealand.
Drosera spatulata forms a flat, basal rosette approximately 2 to 4 cm in diameter. In bright light, the entire plant turns a deep red. It resembles our native round-leaved sundew ( Drosera rotundifolia ), but has spatulate leaves instead of round ones, hence the name. Unlike our native species , D. spatulata is a tropical plant and therefore not frost-hardy. It is very easy to care for and propagates readily via numerous seeds, quickly forming extensive stands. Drosera spatulata is one of the best carnivorous plant species for beginners.
