Description
Amorphophallus konjac , also known as devil's tongue, is practically the gateway drug for any Amorphophallus hoarder due to its ease of cultivation and good availability. Once you have one species in your collection, you'll probably want to catch... er... collect all 200 species right away.
Amorphophallus konjac belongs to the group of tuber-forming arum plants, whose tubers can reach a weight of up to 5 kg. Under optimal conditions, they double or triple their weight each season. The stem of the tree-like leaves is covered with numerous white and dark green spots and bears the divided leaflets. Once the tuber reaches a weight of approximately 500 g, an inflorescence can develop at the end of the dormant period (see Care). The inflorescence, typical of the Araceae family, emits a carrion-like odor for about 3-5 days, which in nature serves to attract and deceive pollinators. At the latest when this flowering event occurs, family and friends will think you're completely crazy, and arguments with partners or roommates are inevitable. However, the impressive inflorescence, also called a flower, usually somewhat mitigates the annoyance over the peculiar scent.
We usually offer different sizes, from small daughter tubers to (almost) flowering specimens.
