Description
First things first: this is probably not A. didieri but a closely related species or hybrid from the same species complex. However, these plants are circulating under this name and we also received them as A. didieri. It is more likely to be A. elepantinum, A. rutenbergianum or a hybrid of these. They are all very similar in appearance, however, and are also identical in terms of cultivation.
This small dwarf Angraecum originates from Madagascar, where it grows in semi-shaded to shaded, moist but not waterlogged locations, at altitudes of 1,000 to 2,200 metres. It has slightly thickened leaves, approximately 4 to 6 cm long, and grows monopodially, though it branches from the base as it matures. Its growth habit is compact.
The flowers are approximately 5 cm in size, ranging from pure white to ivory in colour, and have a very long nectar spur. They appear singly and last for about 1 to 2 weeks.
As an orchid native to the tropical highlands, it requires mild temperatures and should be kept in a cooler environment during the winter to encourage flowering.
You will receive a mounted young plant. Flowering size in approx. 12 months.
