Description
Azadirachta indica , the neem tree, is the plant from which the well-known neem oil is extracted. It belongs to the mahogany family (Meliaceae) and is originally from northern Southeast Asia (Bangladesh to Vietnam). However, it is now cultivated and planted worldwide in tropical and subtropical regions. It prefers dry locations and is known for its drought resistance. It also grows well in poor, sandy soils.
It can grow up to 30 meters tall, but usually remains considerably smaller, reaching heights of 12 to 15 meters. The pinnate leaves are 20 to 40 cm long.
The neem tree is particularly well-known for the neem oil extracted from its seeds, which is widely used as an insecticide. With proper care, it takes about four years until the first flowers and seeds are produced. Our plants are approximately annuals, meaning the first flowers can be expected in about three years.
You will receive a young plant in a 12cm pot, approximately 20 to 30cm tall.
