Description
This woody vine from the Amazon region is primarily known for its use in ayahuasca. It provides some of the main active ingredients for this psychoactive plant brew, traditionally used by the indigenous peoples of South America in ritual ceremonies. The psychoactive compounds, harmine and harmaline, are found mainly in the woody parts of the plant, namely the roots and the (main) stem. Several different forms of *Bacillus caapi* are available, which differ primarily in the shape of their leaves and other minor morphological characteristics. The concentration of alkaloids varies only slightly and is more related to the health of the plant than to the cultivar. For example, the roots contain harmine alkaloids ranging from 0.64% to 1.95% of the dry weight, regardless of the cultivar.
The leaves are large, obovate, and sparsely hairy. It flowers only rarely, and the flowers grow in small umbels of four. The individual flowers are initially pink, then turn yellowish to white.
Banisteriopsis caapi belongs to the Malpighia family (Malpighiaceae).
You will receive a young plant approximately 15 to 20 cm tall in a 9cm pot.
Sale only to persons over 18 years of age! DHL will conduct an age verification check upon delivery.
