Description
Begonia goegoensis is a rhizomatous begonia native to the island of Sumatra (Indonesia).
The leaves are strikingly peltate, ranging from nearly oval to almost circular in shape, with a small tip and a beautiful, dark, velvety bronze colour. The leaf is noticeably wavy where the petiole attaches. The veins are yellowish and stand out from the rest of the leaf. It is somewhat reminiscent of a peltate Anthurium.
The undersides and edges of the leaves are matte red.
A characteristic feature of true Begonia goegoensis are its square, green petioles. There are currently many hybrids in circulation that are mistakenly sold as B. goegoensis (mainly the hybrid ‘Su Gogo’). They lack the characteristic petioles and do not have the same beautiful shape and colouration as the pure species we are selling here.
The flowers are small and whitish to pink. It belongs to the Reichheimaia section.
You will receive a young plant in a 5.5 cm pot. See the third image in the gallery.
