This begonia likely originates from South America. It appeared one day in our collection as a "weed," and unfortunately, we know very little about it, except that it's actually quite pretty and grows very vigorously! It's a richly branched standard begonia that reaches about 30 cm in height without support. The leaves grow to about 10 cm long and 5 cm wide. The upper surface is covered with short, stiff, bright red hairs. Its flowers are white and rather inconspicuous. It appears to be autogamous (self-pollinating), and numerous seed pods develop entirely on their own. As with almost all begonias, the seeds are tiny and dispersed by the wind. This is probably how it arrived here. Its seeds must have been present in the substrate of one of our imports from South America.
With proper fertilization, it grows very quickly and rapidly fills its pot. It may also be suitable as a houseplant in a sheltered location.
If any of you are familiar with this species or at least know more about its origin, please send us an email !

You will receive a strong young plant in a 9cm pot. These young plants still require high humidity. Therefore, please keep them in a terrarium or plant display case initially, rather than as a houseplant.
