Bertolonia maculata is a small, low-growing member of the Melastomataceae family from Brazil. The leaves are approximately 6 to 8 cm long and 4 to 6 cm wide. It remains very low-growing, forming a ground-hugging rosette about 20 cm in diameter. The leaves are velvety olive-green with light green markings. Fresh leaves are reddish and darken over time. Both sides of the leaves are covered in bristly hairs. It produces numerous pink flowers that open gradually. The flower stalks reach a height of about 15 cm.
