Description
This extremely pretty little plant is an Araceae (Aroid). It originates from near Gunung Tajam, part of the Pegunungan Schwaner in Kalimantan West, Borneo, Indonesia.
It belongs to the so-called Bucephalandra pygmaea complex. These Bucephalandra are only a few centimeters tall, highly branched, and grow rather upright. Within the B. pygmaea complex, there are numerous forms known commercially under various names, which may actually be distinct species. Bucephalandra sp. 'Theia' from this complex is one of the smaller representatives with rounded leaves. The leaves are dark green, almost smooth at the edges, and exhibit a slight blue sheen, especially in low light.
In nature, members of the B. pygmaea complex are obligate rheophytic, growing as extensive, dense mats with roots that adhere strongly to the substrate. Over time, they form dense stands. Bucephalandra sp. 'Theia' has been found in nature alongside the much larger Bucephalandra forcipula , with which it apparently often forms mixed stands.
Bucephalandra sp. 'Theia' can thrive both as an aquarium plant and as a terrestrial plant. On land, it should always be kept very moist. Its growth form remains unchanged whether cultivated emersed or submersed, but it grows significantly faster as an emersed plant than underwater.
You will receive a strong, branched plant in a 6 cm aquatic plant pot. Grown emersed.
