Bulbophyllum lasianthum

This large and fast-growing Bulbophyllum is found on Java, Sumatra, Borneo and in Malaysia, from the lowlands up to mountain forests at altitudes of up to 1,200 metres above sea level. It grows in damp, shady forests on trees and moss-covered rocks.

The leaves grow to a length of about 30 to 40 cm and a width of 12 to 15 cm. It grows as a climbing or ground-covering plant with fairly large gaps between the leaves. It is fast-growing and robust, making it a great choice as a climbing plant for large terrariums.

The striking dark red flowers appear on fairly long peduncels in umbels of 10 to 20 individual flowers. They give off a strong carrion-like odour, which in the wild attracts numerous flies and other scavengers.

You will receive a mounted young plant, flowering size in approx. 12 to 24 months.
