Description
This spectacular orchid is native to Thailand, Myanmar, Borneo, and Malaysia.
Bulbophyllum longissimum grows epiphytically on larger trees. Its habitat is consistently warm, with high humidity and moderate light. The leaves grow to about 15 to 20 cm long and 5 to 7 cm wide. It grows as a compact plant and does not develop long rhizomes between the pseudobulbs.
The reddish-orange flowers usually appear from spring through summer on long flower stalks in clusters of about 3 to 10, arranged in a circle at the tip of the stalk. The individual flowers are actually quite small, but they have very long, slender, drooping petals. These can grow to over 20 cm in length! The flowers last only about 5 to 10 days. They last longer in high humidity.
Because of these long, bizarre flowers, B. longissimum is also a popular parent for hybrids.
You’ll receive a vigorous, flowering size plant in a 9 cm orchid pot.
