Bulbophyllum trongquyetii

This spectacular orchid was first described as a new species in 2020. It is native to Vietnam.

Bulbophyllum trongquyetii grows epiphytically at elevations of 1,000 to 1,500 meters in intermediate conditions, with high humidity and only low to moderate light. The leaves grow to about 10 to 15 cm long and 3 to 7 cm wide. It grows as a compact plant and does not develop long rhizomes between the pseudobulbs.

The color of the leaves is very striking; they are glossy dark green to nearly black, with a turquoise undertone, and violet to red on the underside, especially in cooler conditions and low light.

The striking orange flowers usually appear from spring through summer on fairly short flower stalks in clusters of about 3 to 10, arranged in a circle at the tip of the stalk.

The contrast between the dark leaves and the bright orange flowers certainly makes this species one of the most attractive Bulbophyllum species of all.

You will receive a vigorous plant, ready to bloom in about 12 months, in a 6 cm orchid pot.
