Calvoa orientalis , often also sold as Calvoa sessiliflora , is a member of the Melastomataceae family from tropical Africa. It grows terrestrially or on damp stones in shady, permanently moist locations and reaches a height of about 60 to 80 cm, but usually remains significantly smaller in terrariums.

As a young plant, it has conspicuous white to pale pink spots, which it loses as it matures. However, new shoots from larger plants are also spotted.

It grows very quickly under good conditions and is ideal for rapidly creating structure in terrariums. It blooms with striking pink flowers on long stems, each bearing 10 to 15 individual blossoms that open sequentially over several days.
