Description
Also known as " Begonia vine ", this is not a begonia but a member of the grape family (Vitaceae), with beautiful contrasting leaves.
Originally from Southeast Asia, this species is also known by the synonym Cissus javana.
This fast-growing vine likes it warm and bright and is also suitable as a houseplant for a bright south or west-facing window.
In nature, it lives in symbiosis with ants, for which it produces numerous so-called protein bodies on the undersides of its leaves and on its stems. These protein bodies appear as small, translucent spheres. The ants collect these protein bodies and feed on them, and in return, they protect the plant. So, if you discover these little spheres on your plants, there's no need to worry; they are not pests, and the bodies are only formed when the plant is healthy, which is a good sign.
Attention: This plant tends to shed leaves after shipping. This is nothing to worry about and it will recover quickly. Even a completely leafless C. discolor can grow back into a large vine in a very short time!
