Description
Cissus quadrangularis is a very widespread and highly robust member of the genus Cissus. It is found from Africa, through Madagascar and the Arabian Peninsula, all the way to South Asia. There, it grows in seasonal dry forests and is perfectly adapted to the cycle of rainy and dry seasons. Its striking, square stems, which give the plant its name, are thickened and serve as water reservoirs during the dry season. It bears leaves only during the rainy season, when it grows very rapidly. The simple, lobed leaves are then shed again at the beginning of the dry season.
The tendrils it uses to cling to surfaces (similar to those of a grapevine) also dry out during the dry season but remain attached to the plant, providing it with support.
Certainly one of the easiest and hardiest houseplants, provided it receives enough light.
You’ll receive a 10-cm pot containing several well-rooted cuttings, each approximately 20 to 30 cm tall.
Note: This plant tends to shed leaves after shipping. This is no cause for concern, and it will recover quickly.
