Description
Dendrobium faciferum is found on the Lesser Sunda Islands, the Moluccas and Sulawesi, where it grows in lowland areas from sea level up to around 350 metres, usually in close proximity to water, for example on old mangrove trees and other trees in coastal forests and along riverbanks.
It grows to a medium size, about 30 to 40 cm tall, with very slender, stiff and upright pseudobulbs that are thickened at the base and then taper into a long, straight stem. The pseudobulbs bear numerous short, lanceolate and fleshy, thickened leaves. A truly unique appearance that makes this plant eye-catching even outside the flowering season.
Like many Dendrobium species, the pseudobulbs of Dendrobium faciferum shed most of their leaves during the dry season and then flower on the leafless pseudobulbs. The bright orange flowers appear in great numbers in the upper third of the pseudobulbs and are approx. 2 cm in size.
You will receive a freshly potted young plant in a 6 cm pot, approx. 10 cm tall.
Some of the divisions have quite few roots, so please do not repot them into a larger pot straight away to prevent them from becoming too wet! The small pots are intentional!
