Description
The pothos, Epipremnum aureum, is an uncomplicated and easy-care plant suitable for almost any location and tolerates low light and drought well. The 'Manjula' cultivar is characterized by a larger proportion of variegated leaf surface, which is also more whitish-green than yellow, giving it an overall much brighter appearance.
This species likely originated on the island of Mo'orea, part of French Polynesia. However, it has since been spread worldwide by humans in tropical and subtropical regions and has become an invasive species there. Today, it can be found from South America to Africa and Asia to Australia. Due to its extreme hardiness, it can grow almost anywhere that is frost-free all year round. The natural form of the pothos shows golden variegation! This is not a human-selected cultivar. Of course, there are numerous cultivars derived from it, where particular plants have been selected for their variegation, e.g., 'Neon', 'N'Joy' or the natural form offered here, which already has variegated leaves.
Due to a genetic defect, this plant blooms extremely rarely. It is also presumed that the original population, from which all currently cultivated specimens descend, can be traced back to a single mother plant that was variegated and has since reproduced only vegetatively.
Like most Epipremnum, the pothos also grows very large if it can climb. The mature leaves can reach up to 80 cm long and 60 cm wide and are pinnate. They then resemble the leaves of mature Monstera.
You will receive a strong plant with several vines in a 12 cm pot.
