Ericyna (Psygmorchis) pusilla

A very small, fan-shaped, epiphytic orchid that occurs in large parts of South and Central America in rather open but humid locations, at altitudes of 500 to 950 meters.

It is a specialized branch epiphyte, found in nature primarily on thin , fragile branches , and perfectly adapted to this ephemeral habitat. It grows very quickly, reaching a flowering size in just a few months. It then blooms almost continuously with comparatively large and striking flowers. It invests a great deal of energy in its blossoms to attract pollinators before its fragile habitat is potentially destroyed in the next storm! This is not a problem for the cultivated plant, of course; however, after a few months of flowering, it should be given a forced rest period to recover from its prolific blooming.
