Ficus elastica 'Shivereana Moonshine'

Ficus elastica , the classic "rubber tree," originates from South and Southeast Asia, from northern India to Indonesia. It is a so-called "strangler fig," which in nature climbs large trees as a hemiepiphyte, eventually encircling them with its trunk and large aerial roots, thus "strangling" them. However, it is not parasitic, but merely uses other plants for support. When caring for it as a houseplant, this behavior is definitely not necessary. It grows perfectly well as a solitary plant and then develops a completely normal trunk.

When injured, it, like many other fig trees, exudes a sticky, white latex. This can be used to manufacture rubber. However, natural rubber is commercially obtained from other species.

The variety offered here has light green variegated leaves with an irregular pattern. Fresh leaves are initially more yellowish, but over time the variegation lightens until it reaches a light green, almost white color. This variety grows just as easily as a normal rubber tree, but thanks to the unique leaf pattern, it displays significantly more color than the wild form!
