Description
Hoya finlaysonii is widespread in Southeast Asia but occurs very sporadically. Its range extends from Myanmar through southern Thailand and the Malay Peninsula to Borneo and Sumatra.
Within its large range, it occurs very sporadically, is never common, and is also highly variable in appearance. It is a highly variable species or species complex. The leaves, in particular, vary greatly. They can be soft to succulent, patterned or unpatterned, long or broad.
The form we sell here has elongated, rather firm (but not succulent!) leaves with very attractive patterning reminiscent of Hoya callistophylla. Hoya finlaysonii, however, grows significantly larger! In addition to its dark leaf veins, it has light speckles on the leaves. This natural variegation camouflages the plant in the forest, blurring its contours and making the leaves appear infested with lichens and algae, which makes it less attractive to herbivores.
It grows epiphytically or lithophytically in evergreen tropical forests. In our experience, it requires significantly higher humidity than H. callistophylla.
The flowers are typical of Hoya and appear in clusters of 12 to over 30 individual blooms.
You’ll receive a very well-rooted cutting with new growth in a 7 cm pot.
