Lepanthes calodictyon 'Costa'

A very pretty micro orchid with round, patterned leaves. The ‘Costa’ form is hardier and grows faster than the standard form. Its leaves are slightly pointed rather than perfectly round.

Lepanthes calodictyon is native to western Colombia and Ecuador. There, it grows at elevations of 450 to 1,500 meters above sea level on moss-covered trees or rocks near rivers and streams. The plant itself is a true mini orchid with round leaves measuring just 2 to 3 cm across on 3 to 5 cm long stems. The leaves have a dark net-like pattern, which is more pronounced in low light. The larger and older the plants become, the rounder the leaves become. The leaf margins are finely wavy, making them very striking. The flowers are tiny and are borne on a very thin, almost invisible flower stalk that extends from the top down to the center of the leaf.
