Description
This beautiful and spectacular banana plant is probably a natural form of Musa acuminata from Papua New Guinea and not a cultivated variety!
Its exact origin is unknown; it first appeared as a commercially traded plant in Thailand in 2005, although no one has claimed ownership of this variety. Genetic tests have shown that it likely originated from a population of Musa acuminata from Papua New Guinea.
Especially in bright, warm conditions, it displays an almost unbelievable red coloration, with only a few light green speckles on the leaves – essentially the opposite of the typical M. acuminata . The coloration is not yet pronounced in young plants; it develops later. It develops its most beautiful coloration in direct sunlight, with plenty of fertilizer and warm temperatures, meaning it should definitely be placed outdoors during the summer to show off its best side!
It grows to about 2.5 to 3 meters tall and, when growing well, holds its leaves more vertically than other forms of M. acuminata .
You will receive one plant in a 14 cm pot, approximately 70 to 80 cm tall. The young plants are currently green and do not yet show the red coloration shown in the pictures!
