Description

Neoregelia bahiana is native to a small range in the Brazilian states of Bahia and Espírito Santo.

It is medium-sized and grows very compactly. The funnels reach a height of about 20 to 25 cm and (in bright light) form tight tubes with a diameter of about 10 to 15 cm. Its coloration is also only clearly visible in bright light. It is then greenish-red with very striking pink leaf tips. Under very bright lighting, however, it can also develop a thicker waxy coating and appear powdery white overall. Its small, blue flowers, on the other hand, are rather unspectacular. In the wild, this species grows exclusively on rocks (lithophytic) in very exposed locations. It requires a great deal of light to achieve its best coloration.
