Description

Nephthytis afzelii is a rare, rhizomatous aroid native to tropical West Africa.

The arrow-shaped leaves grow to a length of around 30 to 40 cm and are borne on petioles 50 to 60 cm long. Once it is large enough, it produces inflorescences with bright orange berries. This slow-growing rarity is popular amongst terrarium keepers, but can also be acclimatised to home conditions.

Nephthytis grows very slowly and produces only a few (3 to 5) leaves per year, whilst retaining just 2 to 3 leaves at any one time. The plant invests most of its energy in its massive, underground rhizome.

You will receive a young plant in a 9 cm pot. As described above, these plants have only a few (1 to 2) leaves.
