Description
Phalaenopsis violacea is native to the Malay Peninsula and the Indonesian island of Sumatra, where it grows epiphytically on larger trees at elevations ranging from 0 to 150 m.
In the wild, it grows as a hanging plant, with 3 to 4 elliptical, slightly wavy, glossy leaves about 15 cm long.
The flowers of P. violacea are highly variable. They can range from pink to (as in this clone) deep purple. The velvety-matte and very fragrant flowers are quite small and appear in the spring on hanging, branched inflorescences approximately 10 cm long. The flowers open successively. Each inflorescence produces about 2 to 7 flowers, of which usually only 2 to 3 are open at the same time.
The ‘Indigo’ selection is characterized by particularly deep purple and dark-colored flowers. The plants offered here are sibling crosses from the same capsule (x sib), which means each plant is slightly different from the others.
You will receive a flowering plant in a 9 cm pot. Some are already budding!
