Description
Piper ribesioides originates from the Malay Peninsula (Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar).
It has small leaves, about 5 to 6 cm long and 3 to 4 cm wide, with a light, subtle pattern on the veins and a velvety, matte green surface. The plants undergo a remarkable transformation as they grow larger.
As young plants, they climb closely around a tree trunk, similar to Scindapsus or young Monstera dubia . As they grow, the leaves become more pointed and somewhat larger. Eventually, the plants develop horizontally branching side shoots along the trunk. These shoots bear the flowers and fruit. With age, the stems become woody and thicker, eventually forming a large vine. However, the plants will never reach this size in a terrarium.
In our region, Piper ribesioides is mostly only known in its juvenile, climbing phase with small, velvety leaves, and it remains in this growth form under typical terrarium conditions.
You will receive a strong young plant in a 9 cm square pot. Approximately 10-20 cm long.
Please note: Piper species are very temperature-sensitive plants. They will only be shipped if nighttime temperatures remain consistently above 10°C (50°F). Depending on the weather, this may lead to shipping delays. Until then, paid plants will remain in our greenhouse and are reserved for you. Orders containing Piper species will NOT be split into multiple shipments. If you have any questions, please contact us by email at webshop@jungle-leaves.de.
