Plectranthus venteri

Plectranthus venteri is a woody, caudex-forming plant native to southern Zimbabwe and northern South Africa. To encourage caudex development, the plant should be pruned regularly. This species is very vigorous, so even radical pruning is quickly forgotten. The plant is also very easy to cultivate as a bonsai, as its vigorous growth offers many styling possibilities and is therefore quite forgiving of pruning mistakes. Essentially, it's a bonsai for beginners.

The hairy leaves resemble those of an oak tree and, when rubbed, release a pleasant, lemon-like aroma. Of all the Plectranthus species we cultivate, this one has the most intense fragrance.

It also begins to bloom from April onwards, and its flowering period extends continuously until October. The small purple flowers are formed on increasingly long flower stalks.



Plant in a 9cm square pot, at least 20cm tall. Often already woody.
