Description
Sarcopyramis are mostly very small Melastomataceae (black-mouthed plants), which are closely related to the better-known Sonerila .
This particularly small Sarcopyramis is believed to originate from Sumatra (Indonesia). It grows in very shady, humid habitats in the deep undergrowth of the rainforest. It reaches a height of about 5 to 10 cm. It branches little, if at all, and usually flowers when it reaches a height of approximately 5 cm. Its intensely iridescent blue leaves are particularly striking. In the right light, they are a completely shimmering metallic blue with green veins and a few short, pink hairs. This species is not Sarcopyramis parvifolia , which has rounded and more densely hairy leaves.
All other parts of the plant (stems, undersides of leaves) are red to purple. What's particularly interesting is that this species retains its blue coloration even under fairly strong lighting.
You will receive a plant approximately 4 to 5cm tall in a 5cm pot. It will be capable of flowering at this size.
