Schismatoglottis hendrikii

Schismatoglottis hendrikii is a relatively unknown Araceae with beautiful silvery-metallic leaves and a compact growth habit. It originates from Borneo and grows in shady, damp areas of the rainforest undergrowth. The leaf coloration is variable and depends on the age of the plant. Young plants show a green midrib, while larger specimens have completely silvery leaves. The leaves grow to about 20 cm long and 10 to 12 cm wide. Overall, the plant remains quite low-growing, about 30 cm tall. It has an underground rhizome from which new, upright shoots with leaves emerge at short intervals. Over time, it forms a dense carpet.

It thrives best in a humid, warm terrarium and prefers high humidity of 70% or more. Unfortunately, we cannot (yet) say whether it is also suitable as a houseplant. The species is still too new to cultivation for that.
